So when I was little I used to love watching the MTV Video Music Awards. There were great performances, and lots of fun celebrities and, antics going on live from Radio City Music Hall. Now over the show’s long history it has been at a number of locations including, The Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas (that’s the show with Britney Spears’ infamous ‘Gimme More’ performance where she looked lost and bored), the American Airlines Arena in Miami and The Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles among other locations.

MTV.com announced this years show will air live at 8pm EST on Thursday, September 6 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. This is where The Lakers play their at home games so it’s a big deal.

I almost guarantee you that this year’s show will have a big social media influence. They will probably have live tweets running across the screen while the show is airing. Maybe they will move the voting process for the fans (fans can only vote in the viewer’s choice category, and that category wasn’t even in the show last year), maybe they’ll even let viewers vote to decide which commercial they want to see during the breaks and what order they want the performances to go in. I don’t know, I’m just throwing ideas out there into the universe.

One thing is for sure, most loyal viewers of the award show can tell you that over the last 10 years the show has just gotten a little boring. The last great show to me was the 2002 show, when Jimmy Fallon hosted. The recent shows have been full of predictable gimmicks, whack performances, whack jokes and too many commercials. I usually just tune in and out of the show now. I used to be glued to the tv when it was on and then I would watch the replays over and over again.

Oh well. What do you think about the Video Music Awards show? Will you be watching? Do you care anymore? Sound off in the comments.

About blackandtoldsocialmedia

At a very quick pace social media is becoming an essential part of everyday life. As a communications student at The City College of New York I am constantly learning new things about social media. With this blog I plan to spotlight social media news from a black person's perspective. No, I'm not going to get all "Black Panthers" on you but I hope to help you see the world of social media in a new light, the black light of course.
